Hurricane IRENE: Day 01 : Hurricane Irene was a powerful tropical storm that started as a tropical wave off of African coast on August 15 th , and traveled across the Atlantic to the Caribbean, increasing in size to a hurricane Category 3 and then 1, then continued northward along the eastern coast of United States, all the way up to far northeast Canada. Hurricane Irene was so big, she was visible from outer space. As she was being tracked on satellites and the news heading for New York City, we saw images of extensive flood and wind damage in her wake. Evacuations were ordered and panic and fear dominated the news. Then, on August 28th, 2011, Irene didn’t follow her meteorologists’ predicted path and missed NYC and, instead, struck further north: in New York and Vermont states. Instantly, Irene disappeared from the news and no one cared. Except for the people who lost their homes. And businesses. And farm lands. Their relatives. Those stories failed to be covered....
