Like weapon, like camera / Archaeological layers : Number of archaeological layers were revealed after the demolition of the war ravaged buildings begun downtown Beirut - Ottoman, Byzantine, Roman, Persian, Hellenistic, Phoenician and Canaanite, timespan of 5700 years. The substantial part of the area that used to be the Green Line functions temporarily as a giant parking lot

Named after the former Prime Minister who was assassinated here by a car bomb near the St. Georges Hotel and Yacht Motor Club in 2005, who was the architect of the Beirut downtown reconstruction

Accordingly, architecture, being the physical form of the city, is therefore in a permanent state of transition. War accelerates the evolutionary processes that are imminent to all architecture, and it makes them visible.

Like weapon, like camera / Martyr Square : Martyr Square in 2011, twenty years after the end of the civil war in Lebanon. The Statue of the Martyrs has been damaged in the war and stands as a testimony if its lenght and brutality even if it has originally commemorated an uprising against the Ottoman mandate in 1916. The newly build Mohammed al-Amin mosque competes for attention with cranes on the horizon that are working for the Solidere project, that set to restore the heavily damaged downtown Beirut in record time in accord with the vision of the late Prime Minister Rafiq Harir
